Virtual Sketch Date - October

An Imperfect Pair

Here's my interpretation of this month's reference photo for Virtual Sketch Date, provided by Belinda Lindhardt.

I cropped the reference photo and experimented with it in coloured pencil on red paper:

Then I got carried away because I liked the image so much and did it again on black paper, to see how that came out:

and now I'm doing it on white paper, and then I shall probably try it again with pastel pencils on tinted pastel paper!

Nice job! I cropped em down too, but they aren't ready for posting. I will be waiting to see them on your other paper, they each have a different feeling to them.

Wow! I think your drawings are wonderful. I love colored pencil, but very rarely have the time for it anymore. You did a superb job on both, but I like the way the red glows behind the green of the pears.

BTW, I also love your dolls and my 4-year-old is pretty taken with them too. LOL!

Hi Kay Susan!
What a wonderful "pair"!
I like each of them, the red and the black backgrounds.

Nice renderings!

I love both versions, but think the red paper just squeaks through as my favourite. Can't wait to see your other ones when you finish them.

Hi Kay Susan. These are both great drawings, but I think I'm preferring the one on the black paper. Looks like you've really got into these, nice work.

The Evergreen Oak picture is really good, like that a lot.

These are lovely drawings. They both have their own appeal with the tones from the papers. I think I like the one on black best. It shows through a little and adds to the values of the shadows.

Like the cropping you chose and like the one on black paper: you've achieved great texture.

Wow, these are both great! I am always impressed by the people who find time to do more than one version. I can't choose a favorite, but I do love the way the red paper changes the whole image. It just makes it vibrate with energy.

Altogether charming. I'm a big fan of colored pencil, and your pears are masterful. I vote for the ones done on black paper.

Great drawings, both of them! I think I like the one on black paper the best, but still ... BOTH are fantastic.

I was going to say how much I liked the reds and purple along with the greens, but then I saw the next one - it's wonderful! Really nice.

I really like both of them - the red paper is like the light of sunset, really warm. Black paper and colored pencil is one of my favorites. So interesting to see the contrast between the two.

I see you did it on black paper also.
They both look great, but I am partial to the one on black paper.:)
I love the contrast and the glow that your colour take on on the black
It is a beautiful picture, I don't blame you from wanting to give it more than one go.

Your pears are beautiful! The second version is quite different than the red paper version. Both are lovely.

Wow! These are absolutely stunning. Some of the nicest pear paintings I've ever seen. (Do you call colored pencil art paintings or drawings?) Gorgeous!
